Job description:
The Program Support Specialist supports adult day care participants in a safe, modern, and engaging environment. This role focuses on participant supervision, social engagement, activity support, and overall well-being while maintaining dignity, respect, and confidentiality.
This position does not involve hands-on personal care such as toileting or feeding. Program Support Specialists play a key role in creating a welcoming, calm, and enriching daily experience for participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise participants throughout the day to ensure safety and comfort.
- Support and assist with structured group activities, social interaction, and engagement.
- Observe participants for changes in behavior, mood, or condition and report concerns to leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
- Accurately document attendance, observations, and incidents as required.
- Follow all health, safety, emergency, and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and always comply with HIPAA standards.
- Interact professionally and compassionately with participants, families, and team members.
- Adhere to organizational policies, dress code, and professional conduct expectations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with aging adults or adults living with disabilities.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills.
- Ability to remain attentive, patient, and calm in a group care setting.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active throughout the workday.
- Must pass background check and drug test and meet state employment requirements.
- Active/unexpired CPR/First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or college diploma in healthcare, human services, or related field.
- Experience in adult day care, senior services, or healthcare environments.
- Dementia or Alzheimer’s certificate or willingness to obtain.
